I’ll never forget the day I left my daughter at school, feeling overwhelmed as I prepared for my 10th annual fundraiser. It was a significant event where the mayor and prominent community leaders were finally going to see the impact of my curriculum for young girls. Little did I know, amidst the chaos, I had neglected the most important person in my life—my daughter.
How could I be so successful in my career and community, yet feel like such a failure in my personal life? That day, I embraced my daughter with a remorseful hug, seeking her forgiveness. Those big brown eyes locked on mine as she said, “It’s ok mommy.” But deep down inside me, I knew it was not ok.
This defining moment propelled me into taking charge of my life’s purpose. That night at the fundraiser, I announced my retirement and took a two-year hiatus to learn, live, and lead in my home again. As I slowed down, it became evident that those noble sacrifices in my career were just blind spots that needed attention.
Ironically, I discovered that workaholic patterns ran not only in my family but also affected many women and men leaders who faced challenges juggling work and personal life. Without realizing it initially, by being an ambitious community leader, wife, mother, and entrepreneur, I was using myself as a case study.
After transitioning from homeschooling mom to a corporate position in higher education, I had the perfect opportunity to crack the code on achieving “GOOD SUCCESS”. That’s when I found out how to merge effective systems from my corporate journey with meaningful approaches stimulating peace and love in my personal life.
Nowadays, through my proprietary semi-automated accountability system called the “I AM FREE Work-Life Harmony® system”, I help organizations move from peak performance to what I label “Peace Performance™”.
